ABOUT BAP
Basic Academics & Play was created from a simple belief:
Every child deserves the time, support, and instruction needed to truly learn.
The program is led by Ursula Christianson, a certified special education teacher with experience supporting students who require individualized academic and behavioral support.
Through years of work in classrooms and early childhood programs, one pattern became clear: many children who struggle academically are not lacking effort or ability. They simply need instruction that is structured, responsive, and developmentally supportive.
Basic Academics & Play was designed to provide that kind of learning environment.
The program combines:
- Mastery-based academic instruction
- Structured literacy approaches
- Behavioral and regulation support
- Purposeful play and movement
This approach allows students to build strong foundations, confidence, and meaningful progress in learning.
In addition to classroom teaching experience, the founder brings:
- Early childhood parent educator experience (Birth–3)
- Structured literacy training using Wilson-aligned approaches
- Behavioral intervention experience
- Experience leading high-support classroom programs
Basic Academics & Play was not created to replicate traditional school. It was created to build the type of learning environment many families wish existed — one where children are supported academically, emotionally, and developmentally.
OUR MISSION
The mission of Basic Academics & Play is to provide structured, individualized instruction that supports learners in building strong academic foundations, developing self-regulation, and gaining confidence. We create a calm, supportive environment where each child is understood, respected, and guided toward meaningful growth.--
