MASTERY-BASED ACADEMICS
Instruction is structured, explicit, and responsive to each student’s needs. We use structured literacy methods aligned with Wilson and UFLI-style approaches to support strong reading and language development, alongside explicit math instruction that helps students clearly understand key concepts and problem-solving strategies. Each student’s growth is supported through individualized progress tracking, allowing instruction to be adjusted based on their unique learning needs. Our focus is on building strong academic foundations that support long-term success.
REGULATION & BEHAVIOR SUPPORT
Children learn best when they feel safe, regulated, and understood. Our approach supports this by using co-regulation strategies, teaching replacement behaviors, and establishing predictable routines that help children feel secure and better able to regulate their emotions and actions. We believe in relationship before compliance, recognizing that children are not behavior problems to manage but learners who may have unmet needs. Our work focuses on co-regulation, building replacement skills, using strength-based language, and maintaining collaborative communication with families. We view behavior as information—not identity—and use it as a guide to better support each child’s growth and development.
PLAY-BASED INTEGRATION
Basic Academics & Play is led by a certified special education teacher with specialized experience supporting diverse learners. This background includes early childhood parent education for children from birth to age three, structured literacy instruction using Wilson-aligned methods, behavioral intervention and regulation support, and classroom leadership in high-support learning programs. Because of this expertise, the program goes beyond general tutoring. It provides specialized instruction designed for learners who benefit from individualized support, explicit teaching, and responsive guidance.
BAP is designed for elementary-aged learners who need more individualized support than traditional tutoring typically provides. The program is especially beneficial for students with autism spectrum differences, learners who experience executive functioning challenges, and students with attention or regulation needs. It is also a strong fit for homeschool families seeking structured academic guidance and for students working below grade level who benefit from mastery-based instruction. Many students thrive in environments that offer smaller group settings, predictable routines, and explicit instruction, and these elements are intentionally built into the program to support meaningful learning and growth.
PARENT PARTNERSHIP
Families are essential partners in the learning process. At BAP, instruction is transparent, progress is carefully tracked, and communication remains consistent so families stay informed and involved. Parents receive monthly progress summaries, updates on goal tracking, and guidance on strategies they can use to support learning at home. We believe families deserve to clearly understand how their child is learning and how they can help support that growth. Our goal is not to replicate public school, but to build the kind of learning environment many families wish it could be.
